Resumen
Abstract
This master's thesis focuses on exploring the development carried out by the architect
Germán Samper in buildings typologically classified as platform and corporate tower. By
conducting an in-depth analysis of these projects, a variety of architectural responses that
challenge the canonical image normally associated with this typology are uncovered.
The study begins with the separate understanding of the fundamental parts of the
typological formal structure: the platform in relation to the city, the block, and the tower with
corporate identity and the formal categories among them. Through this analytical approach,
the aim is to comprehend the individual role played by each component. Based on this
understanding, the variations proposed by Samper in his designs are explored.
The main objective is to examine how and why these variations are proposed and how they
affect the function and form of buildings in the cities of Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali. By
studying the different architectural responses proposed by Samper, the intention is to
unravel the principles and intentions behind his design decisions.
Understanding the components of the platform, block, and tower, both independently and
then analyzing their interaction, provides a more comprehensive view of the complexity and
richness of this architectural typology. Furthermore, Samper's innovative ideas and his
contribution to the evolution of modern architecture within the city are identified.
Ultimately, this research seeks to enrich the understanding of this architectural typology
and expand the knowledge of the possibilities and variations that exist within it. Through
the analysis of Samper's projects, valuable lessons and knowledge applicable to future
designs in corporate buildings are extracted, thus promoting the development of
architecturally and contextually articulated solutions within the city
