Resumen

Abstract

This doctoral thesis has proposed an approach to Bogotá’s urban landscape, a city located in Latin America; by means of a methodology that made possible to reveal the tensions and poetics as its constituent elements. The author, from his training as an architect has advised those tensions as paradoxes of different kinds, when he tours a question the city, making descriptions and interpretations of the agreements and disagreements they might contain. In order to achieve this undertaking, the author has characterized two paradoxes that allude to the spatial and temporal order of the city. The first of them was called The Paradox of Geography vs Occupation and, the second one was called The Paradox of Tradition vs Novelty. That was how, it was possible to understand the way urban space is perceived, sifted and culturally valued through a singular poetics to be appropriated by its inhabitants, as an urban landscape. The methodology implemented on this research, was focused on understanding the paradoxes as a phenomenon in order to listen to its multiple voices, discourses and dissents. The problem was approached from a critical posture and in terms of an archeology, allowing to unveil in the elements that structure the urban landscape, the substrates of the past in which they are anchored as well as the tensions and validation on current times. This methodology was designed to be applied on three different moments of the experience, called: configure, deconfigure and reconfigure. During the first moment, urban landscape structuring elements are identified and then are described as a plastic image, that is to say, from the spatial qualities perceived on a first approach to the urban space. On the second moment, the author inquired on each element, setting a location on its own temporal substrate linked to the discourses that sustain it, as well as to the symbolic field where every element is inscribed in order to make evident their agreements and disagreements. Finally, during the third moment, the reconfiguration, the author recognized in the power within the dialectical images of the current times, a poetic that allowed the appropriation of the urban space as urban landscape.
