Abstract
In Colombia, strawberry cultivation (Fragaria × ananassa (Weston) Duchesne ex Rozier, 1766) occurs mainly in the departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá, and Antioquia. Sibaté, Cundinamarca, has the highest production in terms of hectares planted and annual yield of fresh produce, recognized for its quality and economic, social, and cultural importance. Considering that agroecology proposes alternatives for the sustainability of agroecosystems through the integration of traditional and scientific knowledge, productive diversification, rational use of natural resources, and reduction of external inputs, the objective of this research was to determine the influence of the ecological structure of the farm and landscape on the diversity of floral visiting insects in strawberry agroecosystems in Sibaté. There are four chapters: the first analyzes strawberry farming systems from an agroecological and community perspective, showing how strawberry farming has shifted from sustainable practices to intensive systems dependent on chemical inputs, damaging the relationship with the environment. The second chapter characterizes strawberry agroecosystems in environmental, sociocultural, economic, and productive terms, highlighting the impact of agrochemicals on ecosystems and health. Three types were identified: agroecological transition, organic, and conventional, the latter with high environmental risk (EIQ >150) due to intensive use of chemicals for pests and diseases. The third chapter estimates the diversity of floral visiting insects, indicating variation in abundance and richness in three agroecological zones. Thirty-eight species/morphospecies were recorded, estimating the probability of pollination, with Eristalis tenax, Lejops mexicanus, Apis mellifera, and Caenohalictus_sp1 standing out as species that contribute to strawberry pollination. The fourth chapter evaluates landscape structure and connectivity as a key factor in pollinator diversity in strawberry crops, revealing low local and regional functional connectivity according to AIC, ECA, and PC indices. High fragmentation limits available areas, affecting the abundance and dispersion of pollinating insects. The results provide a scientific and social basis for promoting agroecological management strategies, landscape conservation, and strengthening knowledge dialogue, aimed at productive sustainability, food security, and biodiversity protection in commercial strawberry production in Sibaté, Cundinamarca. In addition, it constitutes a study model that can be scaled up to other strawberry systems in the country.
