Abstract
The architecture of theaters in Bogotá has, over time, responded to diverse conditions that have reshaped their typological configuration in order to adapt to the local context. Conditions of site implantation, urban relationships and centralities, the multiplicity of uses, and the specific ritual practices of each historical mo- ment have shaped Bogotá’s theaters.
The analysis of three of their components—the auditorium, the stage, and their articulation with the city— across five examples of Bogotá’s theaters, over a period of just more than one hundred years, between 1892 and 2020—Teatro Colón, Teatro San Jorge, Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, Teatro Metro Riviera, and Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo—has made it possible to identify the transformations in theater architecture.
