Abstract
This text is the result of a personal process that led me to question the emotional and physical experiences of those who work in the System for Peace in Colombia. To answer this question, I embarked on a journey of ethnography, conversations, and self-care exercises that helped me understand the historical, biographical, and emotional configuration of the transitional worker. I also explored their motivations for participating in the implementation of the 2016 peace agreement. Along this path, we have reconstructed four tasks that shaped the experience of workers in the System SIP: (1) listening to victims and combatants confronts workers with both the harshness of the war narratives and the feeling of a gift that cannot be reciprocated; (2) processing information to understand the war but also normalizing it in state discourse; (3) The exercise of telling the truth that faces interpretive disputes. And the impossibility of Colombian society to construct a shared narrative is revealed, and (4) finally, the mobilization of actions of recognition, reparation, and restoration from a transitional perspective that must adjust to the rhythms and procedures of traditional bureaucracy. Through these and other actions, transitional justice operates as an institutional technology designed to bring closure to a historical process of prolonged war. However, workers find themselves facing a kind of false floor: fragile institutional structures and tense labor relations were built on top of it. The bodily and emotional experiences of transitional workers are traversed by the suffering of war, but also by the gap between expectations and institutional possibilities. The body thus becomes a kind of affective archive that sometimes displays enormous discomfort. This creates an opportunity to raise questions and propose new ways of navigating the war.
