This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the implementation of OHS practices and operational performance in Colombian SMEs. A structured survey instrument was developed, validated through expert judgment, and administered to 290 SMEs registered in the Unified Contractor Registry (RUC). Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings reveal that employer-driven OHS practices significantly impact operational performance, primarily when workers are actively engaged. The study highlights the employer’s critical role in risk management and in fostering worker participation. Moreover, results confirm that OHS performance mediates the relationship between employer practices and operational outcomes. These insights underscore the strategic value of implementing OHS practices in SMEs—not only to safeguard worker health but also to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.eng
