Critical Walking Speed (CWS) is theoretically defined as the maximum walking speed that can be maintained for a long period of time without exhaustion (fatigue). The concept has been introduced and adapted in different sports disciplines, such as swimming, cycling, and of course marathon running. It has been used as one of the mechanisms to recognize at what point the exercise stops being in a "stable" state to one in which fatigue can lead to stopping the exercise, this means that knowing the critical speed allows adjusting the pace of running or stroke in order to maintain the highest effort for as long as possible. People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who perform a pulmonary rehabilitation program are evaluated before and after it with a six-minute walk, in order to know the distance traveled, this has shown that these programs improve walking speed and also delay the onset of muscle fatigue, Therefore, knowing their critical speed can be interesting to explore, taking into account that this has never been studied in a high altitude city, which makes it more interesting from the point of view of the possibility of knowing the response in high altitude environments.eng
